Smith wrote a whole bunch about his view of what is good and right, and he revised his textbook on this as his last literary effort before his death.
But the thing he said that stood out most as being new or different is one of today's most popular quotes taken out of context and is incorrectly used to justify greedy business practices.
Is taking advantage of others to make money immoral, even when it is legal and commonly practiced?
Will you be willing to lose your place of prestige for defending your belief?
Living philosophers are often ignored or harshly criticized. Dead ones aren't around to clarify what they really meant. People who run healthcare organizations use Smith's "invisible hand" quote out of context to justify greed. Let me know if you would like to discuss my article on this.
