He is the best doctor I have ever had in 30 years coming to this VA.
My family became acquainted with Dr. Young over a period of about 6 months. He performed numerous functions critical to my ailing mother's health and treated her as in the image of Christ. When we were curious about the chance she would benefit from undergoing a more invasive interventional radiology procedure that he did not perform himself, he made time to explain the procedure and print material for us. He understands that being offered kindness is sometimes the most important need. We will never forget the empathy and compassion he showed my Mother.
If it wasn't for his knowledge and caring, I would not be aware there are ways to alleviate pain during the biopsy process and of the breathing method he suggested making it possible to get a good sample. I feel it is something that only he could explain to a patient. Union Hospital has been blessed to have him, and I have been blessed having him care for me and my
health. Prior to our contact, I had chosen an avenue of treatment that Indiana hasn’t yet accepted. I
appreciate that he didn’t pressure me in any way against this treatment but assured me that if he could be of any help in the future, he would be there.
I had a Pleurx drainage tube placed to drain fluid from my chest. I also had a port placed for chemo access. Dr. Young did both procedures. Before the procedures, he showed me on his computer where the metastatic breast cancer had spread in my body. When he placed the drainage tube and the port, he explained the procedures thoroughly. He was very caring and concerned about my comfort. I felt relaxed and confident in his care. I would recommend Dr. Young to anyone.
It was so refreshing to be able to have a doctor who puts his patients first! I have been sharing with everyone how he took care of me. Now if we could just clone other doctors after him!
He sat down with me before and after the procedure so I could see for myself what I was facing and what went on. It was obvious he cared about me, not just as a patient but as a human being.
Patient states... 'what an incredible experience with Dr. Michael Young. That is the best care I have ever received.' ...Thank you for serving our medical center and our Veterans well.
I worked closely with him weekly... (His) interpersonal skills were effective, respectful, and meaningful... His tenacity to produce factual, evidence-based research and analysis was unparalleled to any previous experience... He demonstrated a firm understanding of financial analysis and (can) communicate these items well... He would be an asset to any organization he would join.
I wish to highlight three areas: 1) conviction to get things right 2) strong ethical and legal foundation for decision making, and 3) a mission first approach to all decisions... Dr. Young desires to improve our healthcare system and make it work for the patients... He will succeed will in any organization that is mission driven and constantly seeks to improve the care it provides.
Dr. Young is a hardworking, diligent, caring, and capable radiologist. He has provided excellent care to many of our Veteran Patients, who have been very grateful of his care and have given him praise... (He) has also had many useful observations on quality metrics...
(He) would even read additional cases from another facility to help out the other radiologists... In interventional radiology, (he) has demonstrated himself to be very intelligent and up to date on research and evidence-based practice. He is also very concerned with medical ethics and educates patients and their families thoroughly... Dr. Young has been a valuable asset in the education of our residents and even our technology staff... Dr. Young has worked well with other departments.
I interacted with Dr. Young on a nearly daily basis (for 2 years)... He has a pleasant and sincere demeanor... He makes it a point to find one or more interests in common with each person to bond the relationships... He is diplomatic... His most outstanding characteristic as a doctor is his passion for patients... He receives compliments/ commendations from patients, families, and health care workers for his direct patient care on a regular basis... I would like to have (him) as a physician.
Dr. Young demonstrated a high level of skill and knowledge while interpreting imaging studies and while performing interventional radiology procedures... He has a 'patients first' attitude... I observed Dr. Young's interactions... (and) I found him to be courteous, patient, and thorough.
Michael Young can be an asset to your group... He takes an academic approach to his work... Dr. Young's work ethic... is tireless... We've had many conversations about work, life, and family. If most of the people I know in this world had half his heart, drive, and determination, our medical environment and would change for the better... He puts the patients first each and every time. It's a beautiful and refreshing interaction to witness...
I was impressed with Dr. Young's maturity, reliability, work ethic, interest in learning, and clinical skills... Dr. Young's strong background in complex neuroanatomy, agility in problem solving, and proclivity for applying medical literature to clinical practice was far beyond (the norm)... I have found him to be... personable... and (with) outstanding integrity...
He has worked well with staff to manage the daily needs of a busy radiology department. I am happy to have witnessed the quality of follow-up and direction given to other physicians when critical cases were presented to him. He has a passion for teaching... in his personal interactions with staff and colleagues. He shows this in his reporting, ensuring that care is given to each individual case.
(He) is always vigilant about the quality of his reports. He is one of the most thorough radiologists that I have worked with. I have always been impressed with his communication skills and professional demeanor. He gets along well with our staff. He will quickly become an asset to your company.
Dr. Young was responsible for most of the biopsy procedures and definitely for the difficult cases. It is not often you find such a skilled physician with an incredible bedside manner and obligation to be a patient advocate... Dr. Young is an amazing teacher and resource to the staff and his peers... I truly felt fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him. He expected high standards in the care we provided and we worked well together...
I enjoyed working with Dr. Young and always had positive and upbeat interactions during his tenure... Dr. Young was always personable with his patients, stressing education and making patients feel at ease about procedures even when needing to be upfront about risks. His bedside demeanor, as well as interactions with staff, was always conducted in a professional and courteous manor.
I think that Dr. Young's character can best be summarized by the experiences of... our patients... (One patient) was very reluctant to agree to a biopsy. Dr. Young volunteered to meet with her and her husband..., and he did so after hours knowing that otherwise it could take an unknown amount of time away from his obligation to read scans... (T)he patient confided in me that she had never met a doctor like him. She said, 'I have never met a doctor that was willing to give that much of himself.' Dr. Young is very eager to teach, always providing documentation that is the most evidence-based...
(H)e initiated... care of his patients with a desire for a strong clinical knowledge of the case. I felt comfortable asking questions... because he was willing to engage in a discussion of the medical evidence and rationale for decision making... Several times I overheard patients... asking specifically for Dr. Young to provide their follow-up care for ongoing... needs... He treated his patients and colleagues with respect and professionalism.
I worked with (Dr. Young) for two years doing procedures... Unlike with other MDs, he showed (patients) their scans to demonstrate what he was going to do, and no questions went unanswered... He... ensured they were as comfortable as possible... Dr. Young views procedures as a team effort process. I enjoyed working with Dr. Young. He is a brilliant man who was consistently reliable and approachable...
Dr. Young quickly settled in and became part of the team. Dr. Young is pleasant to work with and treats technologists, nurses, and patients with courtesy and respect... I had the opportunity to assist Dr. Young with (many procedures including) diagnostic arterial and venous procedures.
I have found Dr. Young to be pleasant to work with and very knowledgeable in many aspects of tertiary healthcare. He is particularly well informed on current treatments and procedures pertaining to patient care in the interventional radiology department. I have been impressed with Dr. Young's genuine compassion... and have found his technical skills to be very good... He would be an asset to any radiology department.
His bedside manner is calm, attentive, and empathetic, which allowed him to achieve a strong rapport with patients. He was kind towards all staff including technologists, nurses, administrative staff, and fellow physicians. He was a strong communicator and consistently addressed concerns brought up by staff... Dr. Michael Young has a strong moral compass...
I have been an ultrasound technologist (here) for over 20 years... When Dr. Young joined our team... he quickly began to make significant contributions to patient care. Dr. Young's compassion for his patients and desire to place their well-being above all else even at his own expense is truly one of of his most admirable qualities... He actually listens, he accepts suggestions from people, and he wants to think win-win.
When we describ(e) Dr. Young, the first thing that comes to mind is patient care... Dr. Young has maintained great rapport with us technologists throughout his time here and interacted well on both a personal and professional level. Dr. Young made a great addition to the facility because his work ethic far exceeded the norm.
Dr. Young has greatly impressed me and others in my group... both in his capacity as an interventional and diagnostic radiologist... Over my 25 years as an attending physician, an interventional radiologist has rarely offered me that opportunity (to collaborate on patient care issues) and acted like he wanted to work together as a team. Clearly, Dr. Michael Young has... an unusually good rapport with patients and referring physicians.
(When) I had a question regarding MRI contrast... he took the time out of his busy day to explain current guidelines... he even directed me to a website for future reference that I have now saved... I found it refreshing that a specialist... would take... 20 minutes... out of his day to talk to me and explain things thoroughly...
I rely on radiologists to provide accurate information... for guidance on management... and the interventional radiologist to provide the highest quality of care... while demonstrating seamless collaboration. Dr. Young is impressive in all of these areas. My patients have communicated this to me.
I have had the pleasure to work alongside Dr. Young for over a year now. His commitment to patient care is unsurpassed and is an attribute that I myself admire and try to mirror. I have yet to meet another physician as committed and compassionate for the well-being of the patient as Dr. Young.
As I am now interacting with patients, I am finding just how useful and helpful our humanistic medicine meetings were. (I am grateful he was) constantly encouraging me to do the little
things for people and to be a servant. It is amazing what a difference a cup of water or a smile can make for someone... He made me a better student physician, and if I ever do any good in my life as a physician, he will have played a big role in that.
(He) understand(s) that being extraordinary requires acting extra-ordinary.
